This website is a storehouse of information about the people buried at St Mary’s Churchyard, Whyke, Chichester. The aim of the project is to satisfy our natural interest in the lives of our predecessors, and to pay our respects to them by helping to preserve their memory. Welcome to the website!
Up to the end of 1887, burials took place in the Old Churchyard (OC). As the population of Whyke grew, two new Extensions of the churchyard were opened, in 1888 and 1938. Our research has concentrated on the approximately 1,930 individuals buried in these two Extensions. ‘Potted biographies’ of all of them can be found in the Database on the Documents page.
